For this assignment we were suppose to live tweet an event of our choosing. I had intended to live tweet a bull sale, but was not able to due to social distancing orders that canceled it, so I chose to live tweet the Today Show since they are recognizing everyday heroes and teachers this week since it is national teacher appreciation week.
I chose a journalistic approach to this assignment because I wanted to report on the things the show is covering and bringing attention to, because both things they covered today out of quite a few I didn’t tweet on, are very dear to my heart and I think it is very honorable to show some love to everyday individuals who are going above and beyond to be their student’s hero and medical workers being this world’s heroes.
I liked learning how to use twitter and I enjoyed tweeting about important things that are relevant. I also enjoyed being able to pick what I wanted to cover, even though it wasn’t my first choice. If I had to pick something I disliked, it would have to be I didn’t get the chance to tweet the bull sale, but in this day and age, its all about overcoming and conquering which this lesson taught me how to do.
I learned how to pick important bits of information out of a news broadcast and form a concise response. It suprised me how quickly the character limit fills up! I had so much to say on a couple tweets, but just couldn’t say everything, so I had to pick and choose what I really wanted to say and include. I don’t think I would have done anything different, considering the circumstances, I think I managed the assignment as best as I could.
There’s never endless possibilities to use social media as an Ag teacher. I can post pictures and updates of what my FFA chapter is doing for community members to see, I can use social media to strengthen community outreach and help students improve their SAEs as well.
